Against You 02:54
Against You I’m sorry I turned against you I’m against you still My heart wants just to forgive you But it ain't changed my will Living with you, I saw you cruel and kind I saw you love and I saw you lie I know you tender and sweet I also know you the dangerous kind I’m sorry I turned against you I’m against you still My heart wants just to forgive you But it ain't changed my will Living with you, I got to know you well the damage that's under the factual story you tell I wanted to reach out my hand to keep you from the pain But my wanting wasn't enough to stop you from inviting it over again So, I’m sorry I turned against you Sorry I let you down I want to be strong enough just to love you Maybe in time I’ll learn

Girl’s Got Pockets Girl’s got pockets so she can be strong You say selfish I say how long? You gonna hold onto the fiction that your position On this playing field ain’t something You were born with, you were given Step up close and try to listen Hey hey hey hey hey You wanna play In this country You gotta pay You know things get complicated In our nation when it’s race related And I’m not talking about affirmative action It’s about who we’re putting in prison 700 per one hundred thousand Mostly Black and Brown if you’re asking Girl’s got pockets So she can be strong You say selfish I say how long? You gonna hold onto the fiction That your position On this playing field is something You earned of your volition Step up close and try to listen Hey hey hey hey hey We made it this way You wanna play You gotta pay Girl’s got pockets So she can be strong Girl’s got pockets So she can hold on

Afraid 03:44
Afraid Last night I had a dream It wasn’t about me I watched a family Watched a family I don’t wanna tell you You don’t wanna know The things that happened Grieved me so I must be afraid of something It’s coming to me in the night I must be afraid of something It wants to get out in the light Maybe it’s a sickness Maybe it’s the fight You and I had At the show the other night But my mind it feels like Hostile ground And I haven’t figured out how To turn it all around I must be afraid of something It’s coming to me in the night I must be afraid of something It wants to get out in the light Taking it a moment At a time Pull it from the closet Look it in the eye I don’t wanna tell you Do you wanna know The things I find there Grieve me so I know the day is coming soon You’re gonna ask me to choose Between the life I know And a love that’s true

White Flight 03:19
White Flight I was just one When we moved from Philadelphia to East Norriton Robberies A once safe street had Bruised my mother's dreams and feelings We were part of the white flight Everything changed overnight Closing doors of factories Business moving overseas Unemployment, poverty The working class was on its knees and We were part of the white flight Everything changed overnight We were part of the white flight Everything changed overnight From the life of integration To the death of isolation From the threat of violent action To the sheen of satisfaction Picket fences, open spaces 2-car families, few black faces Cut green grass and shopping centers Neighbors greeted from a distance We were part of the white flight Everything changed overnight The more things change The more they stay the same When the market reigns There's money to be made Now I’m grown, I’ve linked my fate to A new town in a new state and There's another winged migration Gentrifying and displacing We were part of the white flight Everything changed overnight

I Don’t Know if I am They say I’m funny Alive and wise They say I bring everyone that I meet A big smile But they also say I make bad choices I listen to the stupid voices I don’t know why I ran I don’t know if I can I don’t know if I am I don’t know if I am They say I’m cute Kind on the eyes What they don’t know is I don’t love myself So in the night I cry They say I’m smart They say I’m fun If I’m so smart tell me why did I Why did I steal that gun? Oh they also say I make bad choices I listen to the stupid voices I don’t know why I ran I don’t know if I can I don’t know if I am I don’t know if I am They say I’m fun I though that it would be too When in reality It was the dumbest shit that I could do They say I’m a good girl Got given life in a bad, bad world I don’t know why I ran I don’t know if I can I don’t know if I am I don’t know if I am

Carrier Pigeon Carrier pigeon, fly me a note Find me a ribbon, tie me a bow I can't carry empty pages All your words are kept in cages I've seen a river from up above I know there's water, I know there's love These are routes that I have traveled They are not without their perils Carrier pigeon, fly me a note I’m in a prison but I’ve found a hope To your dearest ones, I’ll deliver Words of love that come from the river

Wish for Snow Last of the warm days is Long gone Cover your throat, babe The winter's coming on Watching the folks on the Sidewalk below Running for pleasure They got a warm place to go Do you ever wish for snow? Giving back the light we get from the sun above Do you ever wish for snow? To cover up the darkness of the street below Everyday is a gift And every month we pay our rent By the skin Of our pretty white teeth Oh oh, they need us But they're trying to deceive us Separate and keep us The money don't feed us Do you ever wish for snow? The silence and the stillness heal the heart, you know Do you ever wish for snow? Giving back the light we get from the sun Don't you wanna get lost Get lost, and maybe get to know yourself Hunters bait their traps Bakers proof their bread We too must make our preparations Get ready for the coming season Do you ever wish for snow? The silence and the stillness heal the heart, you know Do you ever wish for snow? giving back the light we get from the sun

Lucky 02:44
Lucky Can be a cold world Friends taking just what they need Before you look round They’re up and taking their leave I’m lucky Cuz you love me The right way I’m lucky And when I wake up And you are still next to me I gotta reach out And pull you close gratefully I know that I’m hazmat On dark days I know that I’m lucky Cuz you love me The right way I’m lucky And I feel you Growing stronger everyday Respect you Want you babe in every way In riches, poverty In sickness, and healthy I’m lucky Cuz you love me The right way I’m lucky
9.
Harm 02:51
Harm The buck stops here I’ve made it clear That I don't want your advice (I have tried to be nice) It’s only fear That keeps you locked behind your White picket fence Always trusting good sense But i'm addicted to highs I’m addicted to lows And I’m the only one who knows How I feel when I’m in his arms You can't always keep me safe from harm I know, I see You only want what’s best for me You think you know what i need But what's safe to you Is death to me And what's right for you, Oh can't you see I’m addicted to highs I’m addicted to lows And i'm the only one who knows How i feel when i'm in his arms You can't always keep me safe from harm

Happy People 02:54
Happy People Happy people don’t behave like this Must be a day in school you missed You say you’re fine, but darling all the while I know they sometimes laugh And tend to smile Happy people Monday brought another rainy day Sky is dark and stormy as your face Your breakfast eating you but nothing said If only I could see inside your head You say you love me but something’s amiss I can taste the teardrops in your kiss Nothing’s wrong, oh yes I get the gist But happy people don’t behave like this I bring you flowers in the afternoon Just so you know that I’m thinking of you And you smile bravely, but there’s something gone A hollow note in this sweet sparrow song Oh you can tell me darling anything I only want to hear you sing again And if I have to let you go, I will I’ll watch you flying from the windowsill You say you love me but something’s amiss I can taste saltwater in your kiss Like you’ve been swimming in some deep abyss And happy people Don’t behave like this

The Light 02:25
The Light Now I finally see the light We choose between and endless night And day Time It stretches on and on Even after we’re gone Our legacy lives on They will sleep in the bed we have made They will build on foundations we laid They will search the advice that we gave For true wisdom Here They’re holding out their hands And they are not from distant lands But from our future See They look at us with love And forgiveness and hope and trust They will sleep in the bed we have made They will build on foundations we laid They will search the advice that we gave For true wisdom Take Take only what we need Be mindful what we leave For we can plant a seed of love or of destruction

about

Catherine Feeny & Chris Johnedis is a look at matters of justice and redemption in a personal setting. Applying incisive poetry to matters as disparate as a bruised friendship and the phenomenon of White Flight, Feeny turns the looking glass inward where she finds both desolation and hope. Feeny’s quietly arresting vocals and classic pop songwriting play off percussionist Chris Johnedis’s R&B inflected polyryhthms, pushing the boundaries of what a ukelele, solo voice, looped guitar and percussion can do.
